Airless Pack Association defines standards
No Comments
Have you heard about the Airless Pack Association (APA)? If not, keep reading: we’re going to talk about the strategy and priorities of the association, which was created at the end of 2008 as an initiative by five of the world’s primary producers of airless systems. Megaplast is one of them, and with Lucyna Silberstein, Megaplast’s General Director and the APA’s President, we’re right at the source of all relevant information.
Reason for the Association
The APA is set to promote airless designs widely in Europe, focusing on the strengths that make them increasingly popular among cosmetic, pharmaceutical or food manufacturers, in particular, airless design’s contribution to formulae preservation and the ability to dispense 100 percent of the product.
Standardised Airless Designs
Lucyna Silberstein mentions that one of the Association’s first actions was to provide a relevant definition of these products. It was agreed that an airless design is a non-pressurized dispensing system, combining a mechanical pump with an airless filled and sealed container, delivering the product without air aspiration. The container is either flexible or rigid, with a hose or a piston.
Advantages for brand owners
The main goal of the Association is to develop the global market for airless products, mainly through communication initiatives promoting the systems and highlighting their strengths, in particular to end consumers.
It is obvious that this kind of campaign will be helpful to brand owners – airless packaging customers – who choose innovation and added value. For airless packaging producers, it’s a way to accompany and support them in this direction.
Last but not least, the Association intends to create an “Airless” quality seal that will guarantee that airless designs comply with the APA’s specifications.
